ADVERTISING AGE: RPM HITS HAPPY-HOUR JACKPOT

Chicago shop's 'Sloterator' dispenses libation

By Maureen Morrison for Advertising Age

DRINKING AND GAMBLING go hand in hand. So why not combine a beer dispenser and a slot machine? RPM Advertising, an experiential agency in Chicago whose clients include Hollywood Casinos and Harrah's Entertainment, set out to make that little dream come true. The agency's founders, Stephen Platcow and Mark Malin, appeared on the History Channel's "American Restoration" in March and presented show host Rick Dale, who owns Rick's Restorations in Las Vegas, the challenge of making a vintage slot machine functional for both gaming and dispensing booze. And so was born the Sloterator. Now that the show has aired, the Sloterator lives in RPM's office after Messrs. Platcow and Malin presented the agency with the device for the shop's 20th anniversary on April!. "Due to the dedication of our team members to RPM Advertising's client-partners businesses, everyone misses a lot of happy hours, and the Sloterator helps make up for that," said Mr. Platcow. And no, it wasn't an April Fool's joke; the agency was actually founded on April 1, 1994.
